WELCOME: GLOBAL BHP BRAINTRUST
A Message from Andrea Pfeifer, Chair of the Global BHP BrainTrust
November was a busy month with several highlights to share. I was honored to be the guest lecturer at the 10th Anniversary of Women in Science Switzerland Luncheon on 10 November at the Fairmont Montreux Palace. It was inspiring to see how its founders grew their vision to fill a critical need to advance and support women scientists. Throughout my career, I have always believed in the catalytic power of strong collaborations to advance scientific innovation in the neurodegenerative space. On a panel of global experts at the Lausanne IX Workshop on 2-3 November, our leading vaccine approach against Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases was highlighted and we have set the ambitious goal for an Alzheimer’s vaccine to be on market by 2030. The commitment was made to accelerate the clinical development by forging public-private collaborations and to democratize the access to a transformative vaccine for all patients. Even as I search for a vaccine to prevent Alzheimer’s and other dementias, I am committed to the potential of risk-reduction strategies to delay its onset. A theme at the Global Coalition on Aging’s (GCOA) Global Silver Economy Summit 8-9 November was how to ensure that people can live healthier and longer lives. It also assumes the imperative that their brainspan matches their lifespan-a quest to which I have dedicated my life’s work.
