WELCOME: GLOBAL BHP BRAINTRUST
A Message from Andrea Pfeifer, Chair of the Global BHP BrainTrust
It’s not too late to care about your cognitive health!
Spring is a time of rebirth, but also a time of “no excuses”. It’s our awakening opportunity to shed light on renewal, growth, and cognitive health. As Dr. Rebecca Chopp, one of our upcoming BrainTrust Dialogue speakers and early-stage Alzheimer patient says herself: “Ignorance becomes a prison”. We should willingly step in and give a voice to the active prevention of cognitive impairment. It’s not only possible but already underway, affirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO). Scientific studies emphasize that each one of us has the individual power to reduce the risk of dementia and cognitive impairment via multiple lifestyle interventions.
Today, I am very pleased to come with some wonderful news. You might have seen the announcement of a second positive clinical trial in early Alzheimer’s disease a bit earlier in May. This is a significant step forward for patients and their families. It is also the beginning of a new era in Alzheimer’s drug development as the results confirm and complement the first positive data obtained in 2022. With the validation of the amyloid beta hypothesis and the advent of precision medicine, I truly believe that the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease is within reach.
The learnings from these studies improve our understanding of the disease, accelerate the development of new therapies and hopefully will improve patients’ access to drugs.
There is indeed hope that Alzheimer’s can be stopped!
